Dr Galea recently returned from the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association's Annual summer meeting at the Crystal Mountain Resort.

Dr Kaczander Dr Kaczander was interviewed today on Fox 2 News on the popular Ugg boots, and their affect on lower extremity problems

The Michigan Foot and Ankle Center is pleased to welcome Joshua S. Faley, DPM to our group. Dr Faley is scheduled to complete a 3 year residency in foot and ankle reconstructive surgery, diabetic limb salvage, and trauma at the Detroit Medical Center on June 30. He is well trained in all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery. Dr Faley will begin providing patient care on July 12. New patients are always welcome!

Congrats to Dr Faley for passing his examination and becoming Board Qualified, while working toward Board Certification by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

After attending the American Podiatric Medical Associations Annual Meeting, Dr Mehler is investigating new and exciting advanced technologies for the treatment of fungal nail infections.

Dr Galea lectured to the local community, with Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Jon Iljas, on diabetic lower extremity conditions, and their prevention.

Dr Kaczander lectured to all of Beaumont Hospital interns and residents on diabetic limb salvage, and will be providing another lecture soon on common foot and ankle pathologies.

Dr Kaczander recently completed the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon, finishing in the top 25% for all runners.

Dr Kaczander recently worked with the State of Michigan, Dept of Community Health, regarding improving infection control practices in ambulatory care facilities. The study was conducted to understand the potential influence of infection control practices on the emergence of antimicrobial resistant organisms.

Dr. Galea headed the Michigan Special Olympics event in Mt. Pleasant, marking his 4th straight year as the Director of Podiartry. In this role, Dr. Galea and his volunteer staff screen the athletes (over 100 evaluated) and serve as an entry into the medical system for a population that is often neglected.

In an effort to reduce foot complications, Dr. Mehler has recently developed an affiliation with Michigan Endocrine Consultants, in Berkley and is providing diabetic foot education and evaluating patients for diabetic shoe gear and orthotics.

Dr. Kaczander has published an article in Podiatry Management Journal, entitled "Alternative Treatments for the Non-Healing Ulcer," and has authored a chapter in the textbook "Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery" entitled "The Perioperative Management of the Podiatric Surgical Patient."

Dr. Kaczander has been recognized for the 3rd consecutive year in "Hour Magazine" as one of Metro Detroit's "Top Doc."

Dr. Kaczander recently completed the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon on October 29th, 2006.

For the 26th year, Dr. Mehler attended the Midwest Podiatry Conference in Chicago. This year's meeting was extremely comprehensive and had a strong focus on diabetic foot care and diabetic foot wounds.
Five members of our office staff also attended the conference. They were able to sharpen their skills and learn new techniques to help better serve our patients.

Drs Mehler, Kaczander and Galea will be continuing their monthly lectures to the Diabetes Education Classes at Wm. Beaumont Hospital, along with their ongoing active involvement in podiatric residency training at Botsford General Hospital.

Dr. Mehler continues to serve as the chairman of the examination committee for the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, a position he has held since 1997. Dr. Mehler is one of only seven podiatrists in Michigan to be granted Fellowship status by the American Academy of Podiatric Sportsmedicine and the only one in the greater Detroit area.

Dr. Galea has been appointed the podiatric consultant for the Athletic Recovery System, a new program to enhance the treatment of youth soccer injuries in metro Detroit, as he begins his 7th year as Team Podiatrist for the Livonia Stevenson High School Soccer Team. In addition, Dr. Galea has been named the podiatric consultant to the Michigan Hawks/Wolves soccer club.
Dr. Galea also has been named the podiatric consultant to the Special Olympics for the State of Michigan, and will be attending a conference with other state representatives in Salt Lake City in October.

Dr. Kaczander has written an article, entitled "Systemic Causes of Heel Pain", to be published this fall, for the national journal "Biomechanics". Dr. Kaczander has also been appointed to serve on the Journal Managerial Committee for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and is in training for the upcoming Detroit Free Press Marathon! Dr. Kaczander will be lecturing again at the Midwest Podiatry Conference in Chicago.
This will be Dr. Kaczander's 20th year lecturing at the national conference. He will be lecturing on many different topics, including: "Systemic Causes of Heel Pain", "Physical Therapy for Wound Care", "The Recurrent Ulcer...Why?", and "The Non-Healing Wound".

Dr. Galea has been granted Podiatry Privileges at Wm M. Beaumont Hospital.
He is one of only a limited number of podiatrist to be awarded the staff privileges, and will be taking in-patient and emergency room call. He will also now be able to perform surgery there as well.
